High-Rise Steel Building Towers: For most of history, the tallest man-made structure in the world was the 147-meter Great Pyramid of Giza. Today, however, this height barely meets the definition of "skyscraper." Back then, all buildings were constructed of brick and mortar, so they all followed the same principle: the taller the building, the wider the floor space.
However, with the Industrial Revolution, we became able to construct stronger and longer iron and steel beams. This changed everything. It was now possible to build taller buildings without taking up too much space at ground level.
